I found this site through putting Christian healing ministry in Google.
Fascinated to see it as I lived in Edinburgh in the late 70s (nurse at R.I.E).
I walked past the church many times then, although I worshipped in
Corstorphine! I'm writing an essay on New Testament themes (Trainee C of E
Reader) and their contemporary relevance, and wonder if anyone might like to
share with me brief personal experiences of healing. Thank you Liz Pacey

I'm searching for death / burial records for Archibald Patterson (b. 17 Jul
1791, Tranent, E. Lothian) and his wife, Elisabeth (Nancy) Baxter (christened
24 Apr. 1794, St. Cuthberts,) Their youngest child was Mary Ann, born in 1827,
Edinburgh Parish. She was the youngest of 5 children and at some point the
children were orphaned and sent to live with an uncle Robert Lisbett who
resided on a farm in Tremont. I've searched the OPR and have had no luck. Can
you advise to me? I'm doing this research for my mother-in-law who is 96 years
young and I desperately want to give her some answers. Thank you so much.

My family and I had a wonderful time visiting your church. On August 8th 2006
we had come to the church at 3:45 and it had closed. A very nice man who takes
care of the church let us in and told us all about the church and even played a
song on the organ (that brought tears to my eyes). My great grandparents
William Hannaford & Mary Orrock were married here June 1,1852. I would
leave the following day. The memory you gave me and my two girls will last all
our lives. Your church is so beautiful. I was able to take a picture of the
church from Edinburgh Castle it is the best picture I have ever taken. I am
from Cambria, California. USA. I do not know the name of the man who let us in,
but please tell him thank you so much!! Debbie Lorenz

I happened upon your website whilst looking for inspiration on the reading from
Mark 9:30-37. i am training to be a local preacher with the Keswick and
Cockermouth (Cumbria) circuit of the methodist church. I will be doing my final
assessed service on Sunday 24th of September in a little chapel in Braithwaite
that has 6 members. I found the comentary on this passage simple and easy to
understand using every day language rather than "church speak". Thank
you for your ideas. I will be using your website in the future for more
inspiration. Thanks Pam

I was researching for St. Cuthberts and found your site, Wonderful! My
GGGGrandparents Duncan Mackinnon & Isabella Lyle Younger were married at St
Cuthbert's on 21st Oct.1845. Their two sons were Baptised there as well (Ewen
& John Younger). Duncan must have died just after the birth of his youngest
in 1848, as the young wife and two boys migrated to Aust. We have not been able
to find a trace of Duncan since. Any suggestions.? would be delighted to hear
from someone. Great Site. Marlane

I would like to thank the staff at the church. I had visited the church while
on vacation in edinburgh last Wednesday. I don't know if they would remember,
but I was the african american young lady with my hair braided. A very nice
gentleman explained the history of the church to me and showed me a small
chapel where Agatha Christie was married. He also pointed out the burial place
of John Napier and as a math teacher this was the most interesting fact. He is
a great resource to the church and I would like to thank him for taking the
time to show me and explain all of these things to me. Sincerely yours, Lorie
Banks Chicopee Massachusetts USA ps. I signed the guestbook whilst there.

I have just been informed of and read of the passing of your assistant minister
Fiona Hutchison. Fiona was the cousin I never knew nor met. Our great
grandmothers were sisters and I have also discovered we both studied in
Edinburgh at the same time in the seventies, yet were unaware of each other's
presence or existence. I imagine this is what happens when families move and
dont manage to keep in touch but I am sad to hear of her passing and would have
loved to have known her. I now live in Mississauga in Ontario Canada and thanks
to my mother's wonderful memory of family matters and to the internet I have
been able tell her more (and learn more) about Fiona's very full lifetime
achievements. My family's sympathy goes to her bereft family. Christine (Mack)

I am trying to locate pictures of St Cuthberts church on 12 May 1845, when my
ancestors married there. Their names were William Bathgate and Fanny Dun, he
being a resident of No.1 Maitland Street, Edinburgh and she also shown at this
address, her father being Barclay Dun residing at Leven, in the Parish of
Scoonie, Perthshire. Their entry is number 533 in the register of May 1845
Marriages. Could you direct me anywhere where I can locate a photo/etching of
the church around this period. regards Doreen Axford

My husband (who is South African) and I (Australian) met in Edinburgh in 1999 -
when we were both 20! We returned in 2002 and got married at St Cuthberts by
Tom! It was a fabulous intimate wedding -with only 3 other witnesses. I feel
very lucky to have been married there - it is a unique place, very beautiful.

I have come across this site as I am researching my family history and it
seems, if I have the correct line, to be woven through St. Cuthberts by birth
and marriage records detailed below. My g g grandfather John Graham b. 1820 St
Cuthberts, his parents : Lillias Miller, Angus Dundee married? William Graham
b. 1770 St Cuthberts, Williams parents: Agnes McDonald b. approx 1750 St
Cuthberts married, yes at St Cuthberts John Graham b. approx 1746 St Cuthberts.
Here it all stops, I can't seem to find anymore anywhere. I was in Edinburgh 2
years ago on a 9 week tour of the UK and LOVED it... to all you descendants
like I am (4th generation New Zealand) go 'home' it's magical.

My sister, Anne Morrison nee Hutchison told me about your website. I was very
interested to see the message from James Russell re his forebears and his
GGGgrandfather called Salvo. My father who died in 1968 was also called Salvo
as was his grandfather. My grandfather's name was James.I was born and raised in
Edinburgh but left in about 1946 as my father's job took him to the north of
England. It certainly seems too much of a coincidence for there not to be a
connection as Salvo could hardly be regarded as a common name. Perhaps contact
could be made with Mr Russell. I now live in USA but visited Edinburgh in 2004
and hope to return this year on vacation. Alaister Hutchison

Parish of Wells St. Cuthbert during the 1851 census and was farming in the
area. I am wondering if any of my distance relatives would be reading this
entry and would be glad to hear from them. Regards to all who might be reading

Recently I purchased a Presbyterian Communion Token dated 1847 which was given
to members in good standing to receive the Holy Sacraments. Coming from a
Scottish and Presbyterian heritage, I wanted to know more about the church and
its people where this token had come from.
