While a student at New College in 1955-1956, my wife and I heard Dr. J. S. Stewart preach at St. Cuthbert's. What a sermon. He was also my New Testament professor at the college on top of The Mound. From Dr. Stewart's sermon, we learned that Christian worship had been conducted on the very spot where St. Cuthbert's stands for hundreds of years. Most times we went to St. George's, West, where Murdo Ewen MacDonald was preacher. Later on, I became his driver here in Canada, when he came on speaking tours. But, the visit to St. Cuthbert's was unforgettable. Blessings on all.

You have a very nice website. I was just searching for any info on my gg-grandfather John Diamond and his wife, Mary Ann (Cottrell). They lived on Castle Terrace in 1881 in St. Cuthbert's. Trying to locate when they died and where buried.

This is really a great site! I'm a member of the Swedish Lutheran church, the parish of Hallsberg. I sing in the church choir and really love it. It is so wonderful to sing praises to the Lord. I visited Edinburgh 30 years ago and I'm sure it is just as lovely today as it was back then. Scottish hymns and metric psalms have a special place in my heart and I'd really would like to learn more about them, their history, the hymn writers etc. Right now I'd like to know more about the hymn that begins "Look forward in Faith" Can anyone help me; who wrote it and who composed the music? Any information is appreciated. I hope to come back to Edinburgh one day and to visit your church. This year our choir toured the south west part of your beautiful country. We spent an unforgettable weekend in Kirkcudbright and I found new dear friends there. I was really blessed. If anyone would like to answer my question and/or write to me my e-mail address is: karin1949AThotmail.com

A great site! Well done. I am Colleague Minister of the Somerset West congregation of the Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa. My wife, Jenny, and I were the first Ecumenical Minister/s at First Presbyterian Church, Hilton Head, SC, where your Rev Tom was the second this year. I got the site address from Dr John McCreight on Hilton Head. If and when in Edinburgh we'll most definitely visit! God love you all.

I am interested in the history of early Christianity in the British Isles. I know that the Celtic Church predates Augustine in Britain. I would like more information on the early history.

Delighted to find this site and am very impressed with the it, as I am with St. Cuthbert's. My interest lies in fact that my 3 great grandparents, John Stewart and Ann Trunbull were married at St. Cuthbert's on 05 November 1811. This marriage date and place gives me a point of reference to further research this Scottish lineage.

"The Celtic Way" (and sources) was most encouraging and insightful. As a Canadian interested in Celtic Christian spirituality, it was like a (spiritual) breath of fresh air. Thank you and may the deep peace of Christ be with you and all your flock. Sincerely, Rob O'Gorman Director Northern Horizons

Hello Peter,
I was just reading about you in the Presbyterian Review (the magazine of the Pres. Fellowship of New South Wales) Dec 99 . The article is about your work as convenor of the Commission on Review and Reform. I remember you from your days at Kirkmuirhill (and your lovely voice) and it was lovely to see a name I recognised in an Australian magazine. ( My maiden name is Clelland - from Burnfoot) I attend St Andrew's which is the city Church in Adelaide and we too have a congregation lamenting the absence of young people but reluctant to embrace even a minimum of change. It sure is a challenge. I hope to read more about the outcome of the commission. Best wishes to you.
