For further information contact George Gilchrist through : Homeless and Hungry This little Guide, produced by Streetwork, is packed with information on where to turn for advice on all kinds of issues and where to find shelter, food, a flat, furniture, clothing - whatever may be needed. It is aimed at the homeless, refugees, those with mental health problems, abused women, ex-prisoners and others in need. Streetwork, based in Albany Street, works on the streets seeking to help people by finding them the best source for meeting their needs. It also works with other organizations such as the Rock Trust. We obtained copies of the Guide from them. As producing the Guide is expensive we are asked to ensure the copies go where they can be of most use. So far we have copies available for reference in the Church Office and with the Church Welcome Guides, and copies will be circulated among members of the Homelessness Action Team. If you have other suggestions and/or would like to borrow a copy please contact the Church Office through : Telephone Prayer Circle equests for prayer in a crisis situation or time of trouble should be made to Bridget Cameron through : . Society Of Friends Of St Cuthbert's The Society's bus outing to attend "The Life of Jesus Christ" at Dundas, South Queensferry on Sunday 20 June was fully subscribed. As well as members of the Society and of St Cuthbert's, the party included our neighbours from St John's Episcopal Church, St George's West and St Andrew's & St George's. An inspiring and sunlit afternoon was enjoyed at this significant and moving enactment of Christian witness in central Scotland. Members will shortly receive the Society's Annual Report and invitation to the Friends' Festival service, AGM and buffet lunch on Sunday 12 September. Our Guest Preacher will be the Rev Lawrence Twaddle, Minister of Belhaven and Spott at Dunbar, who was one of Tom Cuthell's first Assistant Ministers. We look forward to meeting a good number of the Friends on this occasion. Festival Fringe Events Our Festival programme has a strong American theme starting with an evening Tuba Recital on 4 August. The main event will be The American Gospel Music Festival in the evenings from Friday 13 to Monday 16 August in the Church. This is a rare opportunity to hear some of America's top Christian music groups. Our own Organfest will be at 12.45pm on 16-20 and 23-27 August. St Cuthbert's Festival Choir conducted by Tom Laing-Reilly will perform the Duruflé Requiem: In Memoriam Pierre Cochereau at 8pm on Sunday 22 August. Apart from that evening, the Services, Welcome Guides and other activities will continue as usual. While there will inevitably be some disruption, it will be of shorter duration than last year. We hope that members of the congregation will again embrace this opportunity for St Cuthbert's to open its doors to welcome visitors and others in our city. Full details are in the Festival Fringe brochure. |
